Before You Call

A few details up front save a lot of back-and-forth. For parts orders, have the year, make, model, and ideally the VIN of the machine ready — powersports part numbers change between model years more often than people expect. For welding and fabrication, a photo of the broken piece emailed ahead of time usually gets you a useful answer on the first call instead of the third.

For vintage motorcycle work, it helps to know roughly how long the bike has been sitting, whether it currently runs, and what has already been attempted. Previous repair work is not a problem — it just changes where the diagnosis starts.

Hours & Response Times

The shop runs Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM Central, with Saturdays available by appointment. Because this is a one-man operation, calls that come in during shop hours often go to voicemail — the phone is not always within reach of the welder. Leave a message and it gets returned, usually the same day.

Email is checked regularly but less often than the phone. If your question is time-sensitive, call.

Finding the Shop

Metal Medics Machine Works is located at 23501 Kings Rd, Cresco, IA 52136. Cresco is the seat of Howard County and sits on Iowa Highway 9 in far Northeast Iowa, roughly 25 miles west of Decorah and about 12 miles south of the Minnesota state line. US 63 crosses Highway 9 a few miles west of town.

Customers come in from across the region, including Decorah, Waukon, New Hampton, Charles City, Osage, Calmar, Lime Springs, Riceville, and nearby southern Minnesota communities. If you are making a long drive, call first to confirm someone will be at the shop.
